Here’s a recap of the learning journey the course has taken you on.

MODULE 1: The Drag Kingdom

You learnt about what a drag king is in both a historical and modern day context, you were introduced to some drag king history, and you discovered some drag kings past and present.

MODULE 2: Makeup

You were introduced to the essential materials for a drag king makeup starter kit. You learnt about two different drag king basic makeup and facial hair techniques, and the associated terms, like ‘contouring’, ‘highlighting’ and ‘stippling’. You also learnt about skin-safe adhesives..

MODULE 3: Body Illusion

You gained a thorough understanding of the techniques associated with creating a masculine body illusion. This included different options for ‘packing’, the safest binding techniques, and the practical knowledge of how to do chest and abs contouring with makeup.

MODULE 4: Persona and Genre

You learnt about the term ‘persona’ as it relates to drag king artistry. You were introduced to different techniques and approaches to developing a unique drag king persona and deciding on a stage name.

MODULE 5: Movement and Music

You were introduced to ways to appear more stereotypically masculine using different movement and body language techniques. You also learnt about how music might enhance a performance and what components go into a music mix, plus key things to remember when using music in a drag king act.

MODULE 6: Costuming

You discovered how makeup, movement, persona/genre, storytelling, and performance venue influence costuming decisions. You also learnt how to apply different practical costume making techniques, the practical techniques used in wig styling and maintenance, and how to effectively use props in a performance.

MODULE 7: Stage Presence

You learnt how ‘stage presence’ relates to performing on stage or online, and were introduced to several techniques for developing stage presence. You also found out about how someone can connect with their stage persona and command a stage, as well as the importance of storytelling and how to apply different storytelling techniques in the development of a drag king act.

MODULE 8: What Now?! Pro Tips

Lastly, you were introduced to ways you can take all the skills, techniques and knowledge you’ve gained throughout this learning journey and add them to your own creative practise or your own community. In addition, you have a comprehensive set of options for taking your drag king learning beyond the course. You know how to ensure any acts you create are inclusive and accessible, are aware of how to approach getting booked as a drag king, and understand how to grow and build a good presence and reputation in your local drag scene.
