Limitations and alternatives
Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of the Shut Up and King website, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.
Known limitations for Shut Up and King:
- Continue buttons within our course content: Broken ARIA elements may show for screen reader users. This is a limitation of a third party provider. We are feeding this back to the provider as an accessibility issue. Skipping this broken element should still let you continue the course.
- Visible focus indicator: Some buttons within our course content do not show a visible focus indicator. This is a limitation of a third party provider. We are feeding this back to the provider as an accessibility issue. Please contact us if this is causing you problems in continuing with the course.
- Video captions: A small number of course videos use open captions (burned in) instead of closed captions. We do not have the original videos without burned in captions, but all future videos will use closed captions. The transcript is available below each video.
- Buttons: Some button functionality is presented using links, not buttons. This is a limitation of a third party provider. We are feeding this back to the provider as an accessibility issue. The functionality itself is still available. We will keep this under review.
- Reading age: A lot of the course content has a high reading age. Please contact us if you’re having problems with this. We will review the language during the next course review.
- Bypassing blocks: Some areas with course content do not bypass blocks, and require tabbing through repeated elements. This is a limitation of a third party provider. We are feeding this back to the provider as an accessibility issue. The content can still be accessed, but we realise this is frustrating.
- Heading levels: Some areas with course content make incorrect use of heading levels. This is a limitation of a third party provider. We are feeding this back to the provider as an accessibility issue, and have done our best to mitigate the issue through the course structure. It should still be possible to access the content in most cases, but please get in touch if you are having problems.
Assessment approach
Shut Up and King assessed the accessibility of Shut Up and King by the following approaches:
